Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Therapy Physics Residency

  • Overview

    Overseen by staff physicists, the resident participates in meeting the overall clinical physics needs of the Radiation Oncology Section. Utilizes general concepts guiding Radiation Therapy Clinical Physics in the technical area including Linear accelerator QA, treatment planning needs and special treatment procedures.


    Responsibilities
    1. Participates in the clinical aspects of radiation therapy treatment planning, including, but not limited to, maintaining a working familiarity with patient dosimetry, participating in patient plan and chart checking activities, participating in 3-D or IMRT treatment planning, etc.
    2. Participates in special treatment procedures, treatment planning, and treatment delivery including, but not limited to, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and GTC frame fitting, HDR treatment planning, prostate seed/strand implants, IMRT treatment techniques implementation and IMRT QA, etc.
    3. Participates in routine physics QA program, including, but not limited to, linear accelerator calibration and monthly/annual mechanical and dosimetry, CT-simulator, OBI and CBCT, Brachytherapy, etc.
    4. Participate in instruction in Radiation Oncology Physics and Radiation Safety to residents, fellows, radiation therapists, radiation physicists, radiation oncologists, nurses, and biomedical engineers.
    5. Engages in original or ongoing research and clinical development programs. Presents status and findings at departmental, regional, and national meetings. Publishes findings in peer reviewed journals.
    6. Attends tumor boards and chart rounds.
    7. Acts as a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). Participates in continuing education opportunities and attends selected meetings. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of Radiation Therapy Physics.
    8. Participate in full rotation of duties as outlined in the residency program handbook.
    9. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications
    • PhD in Radiation Physics, Medical Physics, or Engineering from a CAMPEP certified degree program or have completed a CAMPEP certified certificate program.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    - Board eligible for certification, by either the American College of Radiology (ACR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP). Will typically have already passed Part I of the board exam.
