Being a Professor - Physics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Physics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS), a public residential high school serving talented students from across the state, seeks a full-time instructor to teach a range of classes in physics and related subjects. We seek the best fit for our students and organization and see this as an opportunity. The position will teach highly motivated high school students in an advanced college prep program. The successful candidate will develop and implement an instruction program consistent with state guidelines but attentive to the needs of academically talented students. Courses at ASMS are taught at the college freshman or sophomore level or higher. The teaching load for this position could include Honors Physics, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C, and Physics electives at all levels. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach courses that integrate engineering design processes. Requirements: Master’s degree in physics, engineering, or closely related field. Preferred: Ph.D. and teaching experience. Excellent state benefits package and competitive salary.
