Professor - Physics teaches courses in the discipline area of physics. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Physics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Physics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Physics Laboratory Supervisor

  • Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
    Responsible for instructing undergraduate laboratories, developing lab syllabi, introducing new pedagogical methods for teaching lab skills.
    Responsible for managing laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure sufficient resources available for scheduled classes or lab.
    Sets up lab equipment and supplies.
    Coordinates lab equipment purchases.
    Oversees lab equipment and supplies to ensure necessary quantity for all courses.

    Serves as administrator for laboratory practicals acts as center-post for identifying and scheduling appropriate labs, sets up and monitors labs, and ensures student grades are accurately recorded in a timely manner.
    Supervises and recruits undergraduate lab teaching assistants.
    Provides counsel and guidance for students to support their success with coursework, assists with the rescheduling of laboratories or lab practicals when needed, and at times, serves as a conduit between student and faculty for explanation, clarification, or problem resolution.
    Provides unit support to budget oversight and assists with forecasting annual expenditures for assigned labs and courses.
    May also teach lecture classes, depending on department needs.
    Eligible to teach summer courses (for which an additional salary would be paid on top of the 9-month salary).
    Eligible to mentor student projects.
    Performs additional duties as assigned or requested.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education/Experience/Certifications: Masters or higher degree in Physics or a related subject, or four-plus years experience in the physics lab, demonstrating the ability to provide lab oversight and interest in education. Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply.

    Software skills such as but are not limited to MS Office, Word, Excel, LaTeX, Python, Matlab.
    Demonstrated ability to set goals, manage time and assignments to meet deadlines.
    Possesses a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work successfully with all levels of the organization and diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
    Exemplifies traits of good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with colleagues and students.
    Solid knowledge of lab procedures following established safety guidelines and practices.
    Demonstrated analytical skills, ability to forecast and monitor budgets.
