Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Adjunct Instructor - Sociology (Talent Pool)

  • Under general supervision, provides instruction to students in Sociology courses. Demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques. Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping required. Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates knowledge of current procedures in the Sociology field. Follows approved course syllabus. Completes all reports, records and invoices in a timely manner and maintains an accurate inventory of all assigned properties. Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student. Maintains classrooms and labs in accordance with institutional safety guidelines. Attends meetings as required and appropriate. Observes and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations. Assists with student recruitment and job placement. Serves on committees. Maintains qualifications for employment in accordance with institutional and accreditation guidelines. Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College system of Georgia Policy Manual. Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Master’s Degree in Sociology or at least 18 graduate hours in sociology from a regionally accredited institution. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to work flexible hours when necessary. One year teaching experience. This position will work off campus at one or more high school sites, working with or Dual Enrollment students. Work experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels required for humanities and general education areas. Experience as an instructor/teacher in a secondary or postsecondary setting. Minimum plus experience with BANNER student information system, experience with Blackboard learning management system and Microsoft Office.
