    Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

    Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System. The , located in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fayetteville State University, offers programs and curricula that explore the relationship among language, literature, history, culture, and new media. The Department of English offers four undergraduate concentrations and three graduate certificate programs, including a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with a Teaching/Licensure concentration, a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with a Pre-Law concentration, a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with Creative and Professional Writing, a graduate certificate in Professional Writing, Teaching of Writing and English as a Second Language. Fayetteville State University provides an attractive and collegial academic environment with a strong focus on teaching, service, research, and community relationships.

    Primary Purpose of the Position:

    The English Department in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fayetteville State University is seeking applicants with credentials in professional or business communication for an open-rank, tenure-track position to begin in August 2024. Responsibilities include teaching courses in literature, sociolinguistics, culture, rhetoric, writing, digital literacy, antiracism, and theory tracking across a wide variety of contexts. (undergraduate and graduate), carrying out an active research agenda and engaging in professional service.
    Description of Work Continued:
    Teaching -80%:

    • Teach classes in English with a 4/4 teaching load, as determined according to the college's workload policy. Classes may include face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online delivery methods.
    • Develop curriculum/ courses.
    • Design course materials that reflect the state-of-the-art, cutting-edge knowledge and HIP in English fields assessment of student learning outcomes.

    Research -10%:
    • Participate in active academic research scholarship in the areas of English.
    • Conduct faculty-student collaborative research projects.
    • Submit major/external grant proposals.

    Service 10%:
    • Engage with students by advising student organizations, including Writers Club, Language Research Society, Pre-Law Society, and International Sigma Tau Delta, in student-run activities on campus, as well as engaging in project-based learning.
    • Actively participate in department, college, university, professional, and community service consistent with the mission and strategic goals of Fayetteville State University and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
    • Earned Ph.D. in English from an accredited institution.
    • At least two to three years of teaching experience, as well as the capacity and willingness to teach a variety of English courses.
    • A record of scholarly and professional accomplishments consistent with the appropriate (Assistant/Associate) rank, as evidenced by scholarly works.
    • Completion of Ph.D. and must have a recent and consistent record of publication in quality refereed journals.
    • An established record of excellent teaching and mentoring at the collegiate level and demonstrate knowledge of instructional technology and knowledge of digital literacy and Core Curriculum.
    • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, create new courses, relate to diverse students, serve as a faculty mentor, and facilitate student learning.
    • Good citizenship in terms of service is critical, as is the ability to collaborate well with colleagues.

    Possessing experience in High Impact Practices, student mentoring, and community engagement will be given special consideration.
