Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Nursing faculty accommodate the mission of the program, college, and university in accordance with academic and regulatory standards through an assigned function in lab, clinical, and/or didactic settings. Faculty advance the profession by preparing outstanding nurses who generate and/or apply knowledge to support evidence-based practice. Each faculty member is responsible for fulfilling and maintaining the responsibilities specified by rank and position, including teaching, service, and professional activity/scholarly activities. All faculty must abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook and College of Nursing and Health Sciences Roles and Responsibilities Document.

    Qualifications


    ACADEMIC:

    • Fulfills assigned teaching responsibilities, including andragogy principles and technology for optimal student learning outcomes.
    • Utilizes evidence-based practice for teaching and learning activities to develop safe and effective nurses.
    • Models professional and ethical behaviors. Demonstrates knowledge, experience and competencies in practice and teaching commensurate with rank and assignment.
    • Infuses professional practice principles that encourage high quality and effective teaching.
    • Maintains professional standards of practice, including licensure, health requirements, and certification as required.
    • Demonstrates characteristics of professional responsibility as outlined in the Roles and Responsibilities document.
    • Analyzes teaching effectiveness and quality of teaching. Makes data-driven changes to improve teaching.

    PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY/SCHOLARSHIP:

    • Communicates effectively through written, verbal, and technologic methods.
    • Depending on faculty track, faculty member meets the expectations outlined for professional activity or service.

    SERVICE:

    • Actively participates in committees at department, college, and university level.
    • Participates in admissions and recruitment activities.
    • Provides reasonable availability to students for advising, and course-related assistance, etc.
    • Actively contributes to the accreditation process and curricular development as needed.
    • Engages in activities external to the university in support of the profession of nursing and the community.
