    Position Overview:

    Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. Faculty are expected to support & facilitate the department/school/college academic and university missions, visions, and long-term goals.  This position as Visiting Associate Professor is full-time.

    The salary for this position is commensurate with credentials and experience.  **PLEASE NOTE** The preference date for application submission is July 31, 2023.

    Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

    Duties include teaching day/evening courses face-to-face.  The regular teaching load is 12-hours per semester (Fall and Spring) of undergraduate and cross-listed graduate sections.  The successful candidate will teach, advise, and mentor students, evaluate student performance, and maintain departmental and student records in accordance with UCO policies; adhere to the educational philosophy of the University; work collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers; participate in UCO meetings that relate specifically to faculty; serve on Department, College, and University committees as requested; prepare departmental reports as requested; and, engage in teaching and service as defined by the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbooks.

    Experience Required:

    • An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
    • University or College teaching.
    • Experience in department/college/university service.
    • Possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

    Experience Preferred:

    • A Ph. D. in Sociology or Masters in Social Work from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university by August 5, 2023.
    • Higher education teaching experience in Sociology and/or Social Work.
    • Experience in teaching a diverse student body is valued.
    • Desired areas of teaching competence or experiences include: Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Introduction to Social Work, Social Welfare Theory, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, and other courses as assigned.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    A successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in oral and written communication skills and familiarity with the use of online learning management systems (EXAMPLE:  D2L) and virtual synchronous platforms (EXAMPLE:  ZOOM, WebEx, or Teams).
