Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Job Summary

    The majority of the graduate teaching assistants primary duties are in support of instruction including but not limited to the responsibilities below:
    1. Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory;
    2. Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks;
    3. Grade student assignments which require knowledge of subjects taught in a class or laboratory;
    4. Meet with and/or tutor students, mentor students in disciplinary writing, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or lab.

    Salary Rate / Pay Rate

    $737 to $1,473

    Required Qualifications

    1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook, which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
    2. Must have at least applied to the Sociology or Anthropology Master's program at Illinois State University
    3. For Teaching Assistant positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
    4. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University
