    Position Description
    The Behavioral Sciences Department is a vibrant and dynamic program serving the diverse students of City College of San Francisco who are seeking transfer degrees, and certificates across the college. Instructors in this program can expect to teach a diversity of in-person and online introductory-level courses to students at various learning levels, participate in a collaborative department environment, and work on furthering the goals of the college.

    Job Duties

    1. Teach in-person and/or online courses offered in Sociology. Assignment may include: Soc 1 (Introduction to Sociology), Soc 2 (Sociology of Deviance and Crime), Soc 3 (Social Problems), SOC 11 (Intro to Social Work and Human Services), SOC 12 (Fieldwork/Practicum: Social Work and Human Services), Soc 21 (Introduction to Research Methods), Soc 25 (Sex and Gender in the U.S.), Soc 35 (Sex, Marriage, and Family Relationships), SOC 52 (Men, Masculinity, and Society), and/or SOC 55 (Introduction to Cannabis Studies).

    2. Teach in-person day, evening, weekend, and/or on-line classes or classes at one or more sites as required.

    3. Each semester, evaluate and report student learning outcomes for courses taught.

    4. Participate in the development of the sociology program, department and college goals.

    5. Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, faculty evaluations, curriculum development, and others.

    6. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

    7. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

    8. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

    2. Master’s in Sociology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
    OR
    Bachelor’s in Sociology from an accredited institution AND Master’s in Anthropology, and Ethnic Studies, Social Work or Psychology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
    OR
    Hold a fully satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Sociology (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

    1. College-level teaching experience in a multi-cultural setting with a diverse student body.

    2. Demonstrated knowledge and/or teaching experience in the courses offered In the Sociology program of the Behavioral Sciences Department (see Examples of Duties #1).

    3. Demonstrated commitment to program, department, and college-wide activities or committees.

    4. Demonstrated commitment and experience in student success areas such as student learning outcomes, student retention, achievement, and connecting students to support services.

    5. Experience developing and teaching sociology online courses and utilizing technology in the classroom.

    6. Demonstrated experience with multicultural communities and organizations.

    7. Discipline-related professional work experience in addition to classroom teaching.

    8. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
