Being a Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Part Time/Adjunct Sociology Instructor

    Savannah Technical College seeks a part-time/Adjunct Sociology Instructor to teach Sociology courses.  The successful candidate will be required to travel to and teach classes at any Savannah Technical College campus location.  This individual will report to the Social and Behavioral Science Department Head in the General Studies Division and will be responsible for the following duties (the list is not intended to be exhaustive):

    ·   Preparing lesson plans for classroom instruction

    ·   Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives

    ·   Assessing Sociology students’ learning objectives

    ·   Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate

    ·   Preparing, maintaining and submitting all required documentation and administrative reports  in a timely manner

    ·   Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences

    ·   Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom area

    ·   Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students

    The successful candidate must be willing to work teaching shifts that might require split teaching dates, and/or multiple campuses.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    ·   Master’s degree in Sociology; or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Sociology courses from an accredited college or university

    ·   Excellent Leadership, human-relations, interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills

    ·   Demonstrated skills in usage of Microsoft Office Suite

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    ·   Preference will be given to those candidates who have taught at least one year at a an accredited college or university

    ·   Preference will be given to those candidates who possess working knowledge of Blackboard (course management) and Banner (student information) , or similar platforms

    ·   Active participation in appropriate professional/occupational organizations

     

    Physical Demands
    Responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling for up to three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time.  The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.

    Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
