    General funds. Appointment to begin August 2024. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty Orientation in the first year and pass a criminal background check.
     
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses via on-campus and/or a variety of distance and hybrid delivery modes; supervise candidates' field activities in field-based teacher preparation programs; advise students; maintain an active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization; provide service to the university, public schools, and professional community; participate in program evaluation activities; contribute to the University of Hawaii’s mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning.
     
    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Doctorate in special education or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by August 2024;
    2. Applied expertise in the science of reading including systematic and explicit literacy instruction/intervention with students with disabilities;
    3. Evidence of scholarly research activity focused on reading intervention and/or literacy instruction;
    4. Teaching experience with students with disabilities, in public or private schools;
    5. Experience teaching K-12 students with disabilities who are culturally and linguistically diverse learners, including English learners (ELs)/Multilingual learners (MLLs);
    6. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
     
    Desirable Qualifications:
    1. Experience in culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy focusing on Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island communities;
    2. Knowledge, experience, or research that contributes to the University of Hawaii’s mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning;
    3. Knowledge of olelo Hawaii;
    4. Experience in field supervision of special education teacher candidates;
    5. Experience designing and delivering courses in varied instructional delivery formats (e.g, hybrid/blended, fully online);
    6. Demonstrated effectiveness in working on collaborative teams (or working collaboratively with other professionals);
    7. Experience with inclusive education of students with disabilities;
    8. Experience teaching non-traditional university students from culturally diverse backgrounds;
    9. Knowledge and experience of tiered literacy intervention (reading or writing) within MTSS;
