  • POSITION SUMMARY:
    We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starter to take the lead of our aquatics department. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In this position, you will develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs and provide leadership to the association in the area of risk management. You will supervise all staff in the aquatics program, including head guards, lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim team coaches.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Directs and supervises aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
    • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
    • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
    • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance and cleaning of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
    • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
    • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, swim team practices and meets, and water safety education workshops with area schools.
    • Travels to swim meets with Swim Team. (Approx. 3 to 5/year)
    • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
    • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
    • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
    • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
    • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
    • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
    • Provides leadership to the association in the areas of risk management and emergency preparedness.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a head guard, pool manager, aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
    • Current CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard certification.
    • 4. Ability to complete Introduction to the Y's Cause & Culture, New Employee Orientation, Mandatory Reporter, Listen First, and Bloodborne Pathogens within first 30 days.
    • Ability to obtain Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor training (or equivalent) and Certified Pool Operator certifications within first 90 days.
    • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
