  • § Leading a part of one or more engineering capital projects; this could be a technical responsibility across a whole project or a cross- functional responsibility for a part or phase of a project, thus ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with business requirements and within cost and safety parameters set by a project manager.
    § Managing one or more minor engineering capital projects under the direction of an Engineering Manager or Engineering Project Manager.
    § Providing technical leadership for projects (e.g., mechanical engineering or electrical engineering).
     
    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
    Ø Work with a project manager and business owner to help define project scope.
    Ø In compliance with company policy and local legislation determine, implement and ensure adherence to local code requirements and the company Project Risk Assessment process and other safe working procedures.
    Ø Work with internal and external resources to estimate, monitor costs and construction progress to ensure project delivery meets time constraints and within established budget and safety parameters.
    Ø Detailed co-ordination of the internal and external resources that form a project team
    Ø Identify the appropriate standards for design, detailed engineering, procurement and construction to ensure compliance with company policy, local regulations and delivering assets that are fit for purpose.
    Ø Develop an engineering definition package, fully describe the technical, process and operational requirements of the asset to be built and subsequently work with consulting Architects and Engineers to develop a detailed design which meets project requirements.
    Ø Implement a commissioning process and work with commissioning manager to ensure systems functionality via a commissioning plan.
    Ø Is aware of project process and can apply stage gate requirements.
    Ø Works within a defined execution strategy
    Ø Uses technical knowledge to contribute to improvement activities.
    Ø Clarifies requirements and develops solutions.
    Ø Involves the right people to obtain needed information and delivers work by collaborating with others.
    Ø Stays focused on tasks despite disruptions or obstacles and seeks appropriate direction when things are unclear.
    Ø Knows the fundamentals of how the business works and makes choices that consider the impact on the business.
    Ø Inputs to help produce the best project details based on customer needs.
    Ø Communicates and reports project status to key leaders & stakeholders.
    Ø Understands what constitutes a project change and follows the correct change assessment processes.
    Ø Manages engineering work execution following local safety procedures.
    Ø Manages schedule and costs on simple projects.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
    v Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Will consider Architectural or Construction Engineering
    v PE strongly preferred.
    v Experience with large, complex, R&D laboratory projects preferred.
    v Proficient level with engineering, procurement, and construction.
    v Proficient level with stage gate capital project process.
    v Effective project management skills. PMP preferred.
    v Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
    v 5 years of relevant project engineering experience.
    v Travel Requirements – up to 20%
