    Description

    Position Title: Project Engineer

    Reporting into Title: Engineering Manager

    Business and Department: ABF - Liquids

    Position Purpose/Summary:

    The Project Engineer provides mechanical and process controls engineering topic knowledge and best practices to facilitate design, procurement, installation and continuous improvement of CPG packaging systems, leading to increased productivity and production volume, and reduction of scrap/defect rates and operation costs.

    Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

    All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.

    • Engineering Lead for CapEx and continuous improvement projects.
    • Drives internal and external partners to achieve project objectives. 
    • Manage project scope, timeline, risks and mitigation, and budget to achieve Project Charter requirements.
    • Conceptualize, create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
    • Improve manufacturing efficiency through analysis, workflow plans, and equipment design and automation improvements, including purchase of new unit operations.
    • Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data and statistics to identify root causes of lost opportunity and provide solutions to capture and reduce these losses.
    • Develops Project Charters for modifications to improve existing processes.
    • Establishing centerlines / set points, and documenting procedures for equipment.
    • Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult to complex problems using comprehensive manufacturing operations knowledge combined with appropriate engineering principles.
    • Develop, perform, validate and test processes for new equipment purchases and new production line layouts.
    • Contributes engineering topic knowledge to process and efficiency programs relating to review and improvement of manufacturing process, and to production troubleshooting efforts as needed.
    • Maintain and produce detailed project documentation for Project Status and Health, IQ/OQ/PQ, and Change Control.

    • Automation Savings; savings to the operation due to automation solutions.
    • Uptime improvement; measure savings due to improved uptime.
    • On-time successful startups.
    • CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, Validation) startup to target efficiencies with required IQOQ documentation delivered.

     

    Qualifications


    Knowledge-Skills-Abilities

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
    • Lean Six Sigma Certification highly preferred.
    • Project Management Certification preferred.

     

    Experience:

    • 10 years of professional engineering experience with a progression of assignments in production engineering projects and process/product development.
    • Excellent knowledge of CPG manufacturing packaging machinery, processes, and standards related to performance, maintenance, and safety.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems and provide solutions in a data-driven environment.
    • Adaptation & flexibility skills to recognize a need for change and the initiative to be the catalyst to realize the change.
    • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.
    • Comfortable and confident to interface with both business and technical partners.
    • Exercises good judgment in making commitments and risk-reward assessments.
    • Is balanced with well-developed self-regulation and independence as well as working  collaboratively with cross-functional partners to achieve assigned tasks and duties
    • Recognized for critical thought leadership.
    • Motivation & commitment to lead and direct others, even in absence of authority.
    • Effectively lead work teams comprised of internal and external resources for midsized to large projects.

    Technology/Software:

    • Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
    • Allen Bradly PLC programming experience, specifically with integration of production line controls.
    • MS Office Suite: strong competency and use of software
    • Microsoft Project: strong experience using the software or with Gantt charts and ability to identify and manage critical path tasks and risks.

     

    Communication:

    • Effective communication skills (verbal & written). Ability to effectively communicate to both senior management as well as operational associates.
    • Sufficient interpersonal and technical skills to earn respect and recognition.
    • Demonstrated aptitude to produce effective presentations of technical material to non-technical people, both written and verbal.

    Physical Capabilities

    Work environment: Position will require the candidate to be in manufacturing environment with rotating equipment, elevated surfaces, temperature variations etc.

    Strength (lifting, dexterity, repetitive motion): general ability to move objects 50lbs or less; fair amount of sedentary desk work using a computer.

    Movement (standing, stopping, sitting, crouching, crawling): ability to navigate various workplace settings including stairs, hallways, and production areas. Occasional bending, crouching, and crawling.

    Hearing (loud noise tolerance, quiet work area, public speaking, receive work direction): varies depending on office location work or production floor work.

    Vision: able to judge distance, identify details, and view computer screen regularly.

    Vehicle (own): Must be able to independently commute between ABF-Liquids buildings (2 miles) on a regular basis.
