Project Management Director develops and directs project management operations and strategic planning to meet organizational goals. Provides overall strategic governance for projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools used for effective project delivery. Being a Project Management Director establishes methodologies to set productivity and quality targets and to assess results for all projects. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Project Management Director monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and to propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a project management certification. Typically reports to top management. The Project Management Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Project Management Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Project/Position Overview:

    This project is located near the National Park Service Headquarters and Visitor Center at Glacier Bay Park and Preserve. The scope of work will include:

    • Demolition of the existing Maintenance Building occurs adjacent to the Glacier Bay Lodge. Demolition of the existing housing and construction of the new Concessioner Dorm and Maintenance Building occurs within one-quarter mile of Glacier Bay Lodge along a private driveway that originates from Park Road.
    • Construction of a new Concessioner Dorm will improve living conditions and simplify building winterization. The new Maintenance Building will provide necessary space for minor equipment maintenance functions and equipment storage.
    • Demolition and replacement of three apartment buildings that are currently used for concessioner housing. It will also demolish and replace a non-historic, multi-use concessioner building situated in the Glacier Bay Lodge Historic District.
    • Replacement of buried fuel and propane lines that are at risk of leakage.
    • Construction of new dorm buildings will have a larger capacity, accommodating concessioner employees who are currently housed in Lodge guest quarters.
    • The replacement building will be placed at the site of the demolished concessioner apartment buildings.

    All work performed on the facilities shall be undertaken with utmost care to ensure respect and preservation of natural and cultural resources. Work shall minimize disruption of on-going NPS operations and facility maintenance activities within the Park.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Provide technical assistance and support to CO during construction.
    • Arrange, attend and facilitate a variety of meetings, including weekly meetings at the project site.
    • Document issues encountered and problems experienced with the construction contractor.
    • Review contractor's baseline and progress schedules.
    • Draft project related correspondence for NPS to review and issuance
    • Inspect the work of the construction contractor for progress, workmanship, quality and conformance with contract documents, applicable building codes and safety standards.
    • Deliver reports, reviews, evaluations, design work, etc. to CO.
    • Review and process Construction Contractor's RFIs and assist in resolution, draft response, tracking, and follow up.

    Education, Knowledge and Skills:

    • Construction Management Degree or Engineering Degree preferred.
    • 5 years Construction Management Experience.
    • Minimum of OSHA 30-hour construction safety training required.
    • Knowledge of project building codes, management concepts, understanding of authorities, and responsibilities.
    • Knowledge of cost estimating with breakdown of labor, materials and equipment costs for proposed construction contract modifications.
    • Ability to read and interpret plans, schedules, and other specifications.
    • Written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
    • Knowledge of software including Microsoft Project, Word and Excel.
    • Maintain a valid driver's license.
    • Qualified applicant must be able to pass a background check.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
