Project Management Director jobs in Columbia, SC

Project Management Director develops and directs project management operations and strategic planning to meet organizational goals. Provides overall strategic governance for projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools used for effective project delivery. Being a Project Management Director establishes methodologies to set productivity and quality targets and to assess results for all projects. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Project Management Director monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and to propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a project management certification. Typically reports to top management. The Project Management Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Project Management Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Primary Function:  Oversees and leads Project Managers on a single large project or multiple construction projects while ensuring projects are on time, on budget, and within scope while maintaining quality and safety. 


    Responsibilities:

    1. Makes strategic decisions and provides leadership and direction to project managers to implement those decisions.
    2. Meets with clients, stakeholders and Project Managers to report on project progress.
    3. Liaison with clients and building strong working relationships.
    4. Devises cost-effective plans to enable effective project completion.
    5. Develops a high-performance team through supervision, training, coaching and mentoring of Project Managers and project team.
    6. Determines and defines scope of work and deliverables.
    7. Ensures necessary permits, approvals, and other regulatory prerequisites are obtained.
    8. Drafts and submits budget based on scope of work and resource requirements.
    9. Manages costs in order to meet budget.
    10. Assists in preparation of RFQ or RFP (when requested).
    11. Coordinates with Project Manager(s) and/ or Senior Project Manager(s) in the preparation of the required profit forecasts for submission to the Division Manager.
    12. Provides direction over contracts and subcontracts of project(s).
    13. Manages construction schedule and activities in conjunction with the project team.
    14. Issues or ensures progress updates are communicated as needed regarding costs and timelines.
    15. Assists in the review and response of RFI, Drawings, Product Data and any other document required for the successful completion of the project.
    16. Manages or assist management of subcontractor and supplier relationships
    17. Coordinates efforts across the entire project between architects, designers, engineers, and subcontractors.
    18. Ensures adherence to M. B. Kahn’s Safety Program, OSHA guidelines, and Company policies, procedures, and standards.
    19. Promotes integrity, honesty, hard work, safety, and quality throughout all aspects of the project and is a professional representative of M. B. Kahn. 
    20. Performs additional assignments as directed by management or as required for successful project completion.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Proficient in all aspects of Sr. Project Manager.
    • Thorough understanding and proficiency in current construction technologies used.
    • Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills both written and verbal.
    • Create a complex schedule using Microsoft Project or similar software.
    • Skilled at managing multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to lead multiple project teams.
