Project Manager - Construction directs day-to-day construction project management planning and execution processes to meet project design requirements, schedules, and organizational financial objectives. Manages governance of projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools for effective project management throughout the project lifecycle. Being a Project Manager - Construction uses comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and operations to set project productivity and quality targets. Monitors all project milestones, changes, and technical status reports. Additionally, Project Manager - Construction manages strategic client and contractor relationships and establishes clear lines of communication. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions. Analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Project Manager - Construction supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Project Manager - Construction typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.   • Primary Function:
    Provide overall management direction for a field project or two or more smaller projects.

    Typical Duties:
    • Plan, organize and staff key field positions through regional department heads.
    • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy.
    • Initiate and maintain liaison with prime client and A/E contacts, to facilitate construction activities.
    • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site Superintendent to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
    • Represent company in project meetings, assist in labor negotiations/strategy meetings, etc.
    • Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with Client.
    Perform additional assignments as needed.

    Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience:
    Educational and experience requirements include: 4 year engineering degree or equivalent, plus extensive (ten or more years) experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management required. Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
    Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities vital; superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential. Must be a business oriented person.

    Comments:
    Reports to Vice President or Senior Project Manager. Makes decisions and recommendations which can greatly impact corporate relationship with Client and project profitability. Management responsibility generally limited to smaller less critical projects.
