Description
SUMMARY
Proofreaders edit content for publication, maintaining consistency, readability, and accuracy for any of EPC’s weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly publications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Newspaper publications: Proofread press releases after they go through the copy-editing process for a final check; proofread feature stories and special supplements for grammar, style, and accuracy, as well as proper booking. Help to proofread final proofs of publications as needed. Help to make corrections and save final content for publication.

Special publications: Help to enter, edit, proofread, or create content as needed for various special publications, including, but not limited to, Antiques & Auction News, Where & When PA, and Lancaster Family. Conduct research for various topics and connect with contacts as needed.

Department: Help to facilitate workflow within the department through prioritization of jobs

Public: Occasionally field queries from clients through phone or email and contact news item clients as needed to clarify information.

Company:Work with Layout and other departments as needed to solve, improve content and design, and correct mistakes.

Qualifications
COMPETENCY/QUALIFICATIONS:

- Language: Excellent grammar, writing, and editing skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to write compelling stories. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Math High Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Technology: Have good computer skills, including knowledge of work processing and design programs. Proficiency in MS Office, FileMaker.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of AP style and other standard references.
- Good time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong sense of organization and process and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
- Two years of experience in editing or copy editing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
