Property Casualty Underwriting Manager manages and oversees the property/casualty insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups, such as accident insurance, crime insurance, loss of property insurance etc. Implements guidelines and procedures regarding risk exposure, application renewal, acceptance, modification, and denial. Leads and trains the underwriters to ensure integrity of property and casualty underwriting activities and processes. Being a Property Casualty Underwriting Manager experienced in risk management and complex applications. Provides consultative support for large accounts. Additionally, Property Casualty Underwriting Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires certification as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Property Casualty Underwriting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Property Casualty Underwriting Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • The Manager – Commercial Underwriting works closely with the Asst. Vice President Commercial / Farm Underwriting to ensure that the written premium, loss ratio and service objectives are being realized. This position is responsible for the supervision of Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters.

    Salary Grade (16) 97,395 - 126,613 - 155,832

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Monitors written premium, loss ratio, and service for assigned territories.

    Develops and implements corrective measures when written premium, loss ratio, and service objectives are not being met.

    Monitors underwriting decisions and processes to ensure the underwriting staff are adhering to established criteria.

    Provides training, guidance, and consultation to team members.

    Assists Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters with their work.

    Works closely with other departments such as Accounting, Claims, Information Technology, Marketing and Strategic Development to realize overall Commercial Lines and corporate objectives.

    Monitors and evaluates competitive developments and recommends new or revised products and pricing to capitalize on opportunities.

    Builds positive relationships between the underwriting staff, marketing personnel and our customers.

    Travels to agencies to strengthen company/agency relationships.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervises assigned Commercial Lines Assistant Underwriters, Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    7 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience

    Knowledge of Commercial coverage's and rating

    Working knowledge of reinsurance

    4 year college degree  

    Previous supervisory experience preferred

    Excellent negotiation and team building skills

    Excellent analytical skills

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Excellent Interpersonal Skills

    Efficient Time Management Skills

    PC skills

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  The individual must be able to effectively and clearly communicate with agency, team, departmental and company personnel via telephone, fax, e-mail, one on one dialogue and small group presentations in a highly professional manner.

    REASONING ABILITY

    The position requires the individual to apply common sense, understanding, reasoning and sound educated judgement coupled with sound Commercial Lines insurance training and experience to properly evaluate and analyze accounts for recommended action within assigned authority levels.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    CPCU designation preferred

    Course work and seminars, are encouraged
