  • POSITION SUMMARY:

    The General Manager oversees and directs all operating aspects of Cahuilla Casino Hotel, including casino, hotel and convenience store, to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations while maximizing profits. Will provide profit-driven leadership, organizational cohesiveness, and strategic planning of gaming operations in accordance with the Tribes goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Supervises staff of directors, managers, supervisors in all departments for management efficiency, business development, team building, succession planning and employee relations.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Accountable for the overall planning, development, and implementation of all Casino activities and events, and individual departments goals and objectives.
    • Develops and reports on annual goals, objectives and budgets to the Board of Directors, including maximization of staff, events, operations, and finances for reaching company goals and maximizing profits.
    • Reviews department budgets for revenue and expenses within each department, and makes recommendations to modify budgets for cost effectiveness, staffing adequacy, operational efficiency, business needs, and business growth. Ensures that budgeted goals are achieved and cost objectives are met by taking action on budget variance items, and reporting egregious discrepancies to the Board of Directors.
    • Ensures the quality of management operations in all areas of the organization.
    • Establishes performance and profit objectives for short-term and long-term goals.
    • Ensures a maximum level of customer service and satisfaction throughout the property is achieved and maintained.
    • Facilitates the flow of information throughout the property, and develops effective corporate procedures and controls, by organizing and presiding over regularly scheduled meetings with Directors, Mangers, etc.
    • Held accountable, to the very highest degree, for the accuracy and thoroughness of property records and reports.
    • Develop and maintain a business flow for gaming activities.
    • Maintain current knowledge of Gaming across the country and keep abreast of market changes, by attending all necessary conventions, trade shows, seminars, professional development courses, workshops, related to maximizing casino operations, profitability and gaming operations.
    • Initiates and maintains contact with competitor casino GMs and Managers for exchanging useful information on gaming activities and industry updates.
    • Review profit and loss statements along with other financial reports to aid in the preparation of reports to be submitted to the Board of Directors.
    • Enforce compliance of employees with established security, and other departmental procedures and practices.
    • Supervise all gaming operation supervisors and gaming activities.
    • Coordinate gaming planning in conjunction with overall Tribal efforts to establish long range goals and short range strategies to meet goals and objectives for Tribal activities.
    • Maintain continuing direct communication with the Board of Directors within executive session as necessary along with written and oral reports on gaming related problems, plans and general business.
    • Meets and works with departmental managers on establishing property goals for human resource initiatives on employee development, employee relations, employee incentives and recognition, management, training, general claims liability, benefit administration, organizational development and leadership, recruiting, disciplinary actions, and retention of staff.
    • Holds regular staff meetings with department directors/managers for uniform enforcement of policy and procedures, department-wide objectives, department efficiency and accountability, and to strategically implement operations for promotions, events and activities.
    • Ability to inform and communicate orally and in writing in diverse and challenging situations in order to address problems and relate established goals and objectives.
    • Obtains data, supervises the coordination and development of statistical and financial data and internal controls for department budgets, cash flow, cash operations, purchasing, gaming floor efficiency, accounting practices, regulatory compliance, gaming, financial audits, promotions, marketing, security, and technical controls, and initiates investigation of notable fluctuations or discrepancies.
    • Ability to demonstrate openness to new organizational structures, procedures, and technology and provide visible support for organizational changes needed to improve effectiveness, and help others to successfully manage organizational change.
    • Establishes an effective system of communication to maintain a constant flow of information downward, upward and laterally.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


    Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and appraisal of subordinate managers and directors at any one time.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS


    Ability to obtain and maintain a Cahuilla Gaming License, and submit to random drug/and or alcohol testing.

    • Ability to understand common accounting and audit practices in the gaming industry including jackpot liabilities, loyalty and incentive programs, regulation and licensing and general audit considerations.
    • Ability to compile monthly volume and revenue figures to facilitate managerial decision making.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:


    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The incumbent works in an office environment, in a thermostatically-controlled room. Flooring and grounds consist of carpeting, tile, dirt and asphalt. There are ramps and short stairways for access into and around the casino, Department of Public Safety offices, Finance Offices, Administrative Offices and Food and Beverage Offices.

    While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and required to move about the Casino floor and exposed to a non-smoke free environment.


    Cahuilla Casino Hotel is committed to a drug and alcohol free workplace. Any job offer is conditional upon successful passing of a pre-employment drug test and must qualify for a Cahuilla Gaming License, which includes an extensive background security check.


    If none of the applicants should meet the stated qualifications, applicants whose education and experience are less than the stated requirements, may be interviewed and hired provided the applicant hired submits a formal written training plan within (30) thirty days which can be completed within a reasonable time agreed upon by the supervisor and the applicant. Applicants who are hired and fail to meet the agreed upon formal training program, will be discharged upon failure to complete the specified training as so scheduled.


    A drug test will be required prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
