Become a valuable part of the James Madison University community! JMU’s IT Network Services team is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of Network Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Network Services, the Network Technician will function as part of a growing team of talented network engineers and technicians in meeting the networking needs of the university.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Network Technician will provide direct support to customers, team members and IT management by:
Monitoring the ticketing system, responding to customer inquiries, and distributing requests to appropriate team members
Configuring, installing, and troubleshooting various network devices and systems
Managing and monitoring network monitoring systems and reporting issues for escalation and resolution
Maintaining an accurate inventory of network equipment and accessories
Providing support for various networking projects
Creating, maintaining, and recommending system processes and procedures
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Experience with Cisco IOS/IOS-XE and the CLI
Experience with wireless networking
Experience installing and troubleshooting network hardware including switches and wireless access points
Experience working in a campus or large enterprise environment
Excellent organizational and communication skills (in-person, email, phone, chat)
Attention to detail, problem solving skills, and customer service skills
Additional Considerations:
Familiarity with different cabling and connector types (copper and fiber)
Experience with Zenoss monitoring
Experience performing wireless surveys
Experience managing inventory of equipment
Experience with ITSM ticketing systems
Knowledgeable in Microsoft tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint
