JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs is a senior-level administrative position responsible for contributing to the oversight of faculty affairs and academic personnel matters within Columbia College. The role involves developing and implementing policies, supporting faculty development, managing administrative aspects of tenure and promotion processes, and ensuring compliance with university and regulatory standards. Serving as a strategic advisor to the Provost, the Assistant Provost will work closely with deans, program chairs, and other academic leaders to enhance faculty excellence and support the college's academic mission; and performs related work as assigned. This position works closely with and reports to the Provost.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Faculty Development and Support: Develops and oversees programs and initiatives to support faculty professional development, well-being, and work-life balance; provides guidance and resources for career advancement and mentorship opportunities.
- Procedure and Policy Development and Implementation: Develops, reviews, and implements communications, procedures and policies related to faculty affairs, including appointment, tenure, promotion, leave, evaluation, and grievance procedures; ensures policies are aligned with college objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Tenure and Promotion: Provides administrative support for the tenure and promotion process, ensuring that procedures are timely, transparent, and consistent across the college; provides support and guidance to faculty and programs throughout the evaluation process.
- Faculty Recruitment and Retention: Works with academic divisions and programs to develop strategies for recruiting and retaining diverse and talented faculty; supports the appointment process and ensures effective onboarding of new faculty members.
- Adjunct Faculty Support: Establishes and maintains a support system for adjunct faculty, recognizing their unique needs and contributions to the college. The Assistant Provost will also develop policies and programs that provide adjunct faculty with access to professional development, mentoring, and college resources.
- Conflict Resolution and Grievance Handling: Serves as a resource for faculty and academic leaders in resolving conflicts and grievances; ensures that issues are addressed fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with college policies.
- Faculty Recognition and Awards: Oversees the process for faculty awards and recognitions, celebrating excellence in teaching, research, and service.
- Communication and Collaboration: Serves as a liaison between the faculty and the administration, fostering communication and collaboration across academic units; participates in college committees and working groups related to academic affairs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Earned doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant discipline.
- Must have significant experience in academic administration, with a proven track record in faculty development, personnel management, and policy development.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders across the college.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Knowledge of higher education policies, regulations, and best practices related to faculty affairs.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires sedentary work that involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, hearing, mental acuity, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
