    Overview
    The University of San Francisco seeks a dynamic, creative and collaborative leader to oversee and advance university-wide antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion (ADEI) initiatives and data-informed action planning.

    The Associate Vice Provost for ADEI (AVP) will work toward centering antiracism, diversity and equity at USF, while fostering inclusion and a sense of belonging among members of the university community and engagement with community partners. U.S. News and World Reports 2022 ranks USF number one in the nation for the racial/ethnic diversity of its students; 13% are international and 29% are Pell eligible. USF's Jesuit Catholic mission is grounded in its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, creative expression, and service; passion for social justice; and care for and engagement with our local and global communities. The AVP will work with stakeholders to build and sustain a culture that values diversity in all its forms, including race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, abilities/disabilities, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and nationality.     Full Job Description:

    The Associate Vice Provost for ADEI provides leadership and capacity building in building inclusive excellence and advancing equity across the various units of the university. The AVP works collaboratively to articulate, implement and assess ADEI initiatives across the university and to galvanize a culture at USF that champions the critical importance of ADEI. The AVP coordinates existing and new programs centered on equity and anti-racism, bias response, restorative justice, and implements and develops practices and procedures in support of a diverse and equitable community. Reporting to the Vice Provost, Equity, Inclusion and Faculty Excellence, the AVP will build and manage a re-envisioned Office of ADEI, and oversees key ADEI efforts in partnership with Student Life, including the Black Achievement, Success and Engagement program, and Latinx Excellence and Belonging Initiative. The AVP serves as Provost's Office liaison to key DEI related offices and entities such as the Cultural Centers, President's Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, and USF Resources, Education, Prevention and Support, Title IX office. The Associate Vice Provost serves as a collaborator and advisor to university and community partners engaged in allied work.

    Working closely with university stakeholders, the Associate Vice Provost supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive, data-informed university-wide plan to advance antiracism, equity and inclusion at the university. This includes supporting the university's schools, college, regional campuses and campus units in articulating, advancing and assessing their DEI goals and action plans, analysis of campus climate data, and working alongside the Vice Provost for Equity, Inclusion and Faculty Excellence in ensuring alignment with the university's overarching vision for DEI. Partnering with students, faculty, librarians, staff and administrative leaders the Associate Vice Provost develops and implements a strategic, participatory and inclusive approach to fostering antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Associate Vice Provost co-chairs the University Council on Diversity and Inclusion and serves on Strategic Planning committees as required.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy and Practice:
    • Provide vision, leadership, and administrative oversight to the Office for ADEI so that it can begin to create a framework for strengthening and coordinating equity and inclusion efforts university-wide
    • Engage community members in understanding factors that contribute to inequities through needs assessment and development of strategic actions related to findings
    • Assist the VPEIFE in the coordination of climate surveys and development, implementation, and interpretation of findings to identify actions/interventions that can address the issues identified, accountability, and assess change
    • Partner with deans and other administrative units and provide coaching, training and consultation to address DEI issues with students, staff, faculty, and librarians
    • Promote and provide training regarding hiring practices and procedures for recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce
    • Plan and lead efforts centered on diversity, equity, and antiracism including facilitation of meetings/conversations, workshops, or conferences with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents
    • Manage the Gerardo Marin Diversity Fellowship Program for underrepresented predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows by working closely with the academic deans to recruit candidates for the year-long annual program
    • Ensure the effectiveness, adequate resourcing and visibility of the university's affinity-based academic excellence and belonging initiatives:
      • Black Achievement Success and Engagement initiative- at the institutional level, oversee and support the dynamic and comprehensive BASE initiative; build on USF's commitment to inclusive excellence and diversity by overseeing an academically challenging, personally-supportive, and empowering educational experience for black-identified students
      • Latinx Excellence and Belonging initiative-at the institutional level, oversee and support the envisioning, development of a comprehensive, university-wide action plan for students, faculty, and staff that will support inclusive excellence, intersectionality and empowerment for our diverse Latinx community at USF

    Internal and External Community Engagement:
    • Meet regularly with members of the various student, faculty and staff affinity groups to ensure ongoing communication and collaboration; organize biannual reception for faculty/staff of color
    • Coordinate efforts to maximize impact and involvement among student organizations, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to ensure University diversity initiatives extend to a number of constituents and that opportunities for connections occur across groups
    • Cultivate and maintain interactions with underrepresented communities and strategic community partnerships in the San Francisco Bay Area including those based at schools, community service agencies, churches, businesses, and local governments that will advance USF's broad commitment to DEI and social justice

    Oversight of Internal Operations:
    • Responsible for smooth functioning of the Office of ADEI, including direct supervision of the Program Coordinator. Support professional development opportunities and conduct annual appraisal. Provide supervision and mentorship to graduate student interns in the office. Work closely with Program Assistant (0.45 FTE)
    • Manage ADEI office budget and make recommendations regarding allocation of resources, and advocate for any additional resources
    • Responsible for future development of Office of ADEI strategic plan and periodic program assessment and reviews
    • Oversee marketing initiatives of programming, including social media and web content
    • Supervise Senior Director, Black Achievement Success and Engagement (BASE) Program

    Fundraising:
    • Understand, develop, and execute fundraising strategies to support ADEI programs and assist with operations
    • Work with University Office of Development to set funding goals, identify and cultivate donors to build ADEI's current and long-term sustainability
    • Identify, write, and oversee grant applications to government agencies, corporations, and foundations with assistance of Development and Office of Contracts and Grants

    Other Duties:
    • Serve on relevant boards and committees as assigned, including the University Council on Diversity and Inclusion
    • The Associate Vice Provost for ADEI will perform other duties as assigned

    Skills, Qualities, and Competencies:
    • Advanced degree beyond the Bachelor's degree required
    • Minimum of five years of administrative experience in a higher educational setting
    • Successful record of experience and leadership in advancing antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusive practice in a higher education environment, including knowledge of diverse hiring practices
    • Good fund of knowledge regarding historical antecedents and structural factors of social inequities and stratification of diverse groups
    • Experienced in developing and implementing programs, projects, workshops and training designed for positive DEI change
    • Skilled at project management and developing, implementing and evaluating strategic initiatives
    • Experience managing budgets and raising funds and resources to meet expanding needs and initiatives
    • Highly effective at time management and completion of tasks
    • Must exhibit outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills; high level of discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality
    • Skilled facilitator. Demonstrated ability to listen, engage and collaborate with diverse audiences; a strong team player and team builder who enjoys working with others
    • Commitment to an organizational culture marked by integrity, ethics, inclusiveness, professionalism, and respect for diversity in all its forms.
    • The ideal candidate will be an energetic, creative, dedicated, and responsive leader
