Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     Job Summary: We are looking for a Psychiatrist to join our team in Palmer, Alaska. You will be employed by an acute behavioral health unit, primarily working with adults and occasionally adolescents. You will have the flexibility to choose your schedule, either 7 on/7 off or Monday – Friday. You will be joining a team of 3 advanced practitioners. The role is primarily inpatient with plans to expand to outpatient. Experienced physicians and new graduates are both welcomed and J1 support is available.
     
    Roles and Responsibilities:
     
    • Diagnose and treat mental illnesses through a combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and medication
    • Provide therapeutic services to individuals, families, and groups
    • Evaluate psychological and physical factors that may be causing mental health issues
    • Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary
    • Refer patients to other healthcare professionals and community resources
    • Remain up-to-date on the latest advancements in psychiatry
     
    Qualifications:
     
    • MD or DO degree in psychiatry
    • Board certification or board eligibility in psychiatry
    • Active Alaska license or ability to obtain
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
     
    Experience and Skills:
     
    • Experience working in a behavioral health setting
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately
    • Proficiency in the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR)
    • Knowledge of current standards and best practices in psychiatry
    • Knowledge of psychological testing and assessment techniques
