Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     Specific Duties: The type of work may include, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Examines, evaluates, diagnoses, and treats psychiatric disorders.
    • Prepare and review case histories and obtain and evaluate data through interview techniques.
    • Diagnoses psychiatric disorders.
    • Prescribe and evaluate effectiveness of a wide range of therapeutic measures.
    • Recommend disposition of psychiatric cases.
    • Advise on problems related to mental health and prevention of mental disorders.
    • Serve as medical and psychiatric consultant to clinical psychologists and clinical social workers.
    • Attend and participate in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities.
    • Advise on the kind and quantity of psychiatric supplies and equipment.
    • Coordinate psychiatric services with other medical facilities.
    • Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders and school districts, as required.
    • Maintain accurate and current notes in both the Mental Health records and inpatient medical records of all patients seen, as appropriate, and produce reports of evaluation and/or treatment.
    • Participate in military specific training (e.g., training to perform Command Directed Evaluations, medical evaluation boards, temporary disability retirement list (TDRL) evaluations, security clearances, Military Training Instructor clearances, pre-post deployment screening, PTSD, and combat stress)
    • Performs computer operations and is proficient in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and electronic medical records.
    • Instruct interns and residents in psychiatric principles and procedures.
    • Produce number of normally scheduled visits during any UrgiCare time worked as directed by the MTF.
    • Produce a monthly average of patient visits and Relevant Value Units (RVUs) consistent with department norms.


    Work Schedule:

    Monday - Friday, 9 hours between 7:00am and 5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break

    Very limited On-Call (max 500 hours per year (approx 4 weeks total annually)

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).

    Education: Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. 

    Internship/Residency:  Successful completion of an internship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty required in the TO) which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). For purposes of this requirement, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. 

    Experience:  Have a minimum of 2-years within the last 3-years in similar field

    License: Active, unrestricted license to practice as a Clinical Psychiatrist from any state.

    Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
