Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     The Petaluma Health Center is searching for an Adult Psychiatrist comfortable with high acuity community psychiatry patients. Value an interest in psychotherapy and conservative medication management.

    Summary: Provides clinical assessments and treatment via medication management and therapy to patients with mental health disorders. Care is provided through ongoing individual visits, group visits and in consultation to primary care providers. Additionally, the psychiatrist actively participates as part of care team which includes primary care provider, nursing staff, mental health therapists and case managers. Initial consultations are generally established patients prescreened by their primary provider or current therapist to assess appropriateness of the referral. Direct consultations may be requested as a formal referral or ad hoc. Initial assessments are scheduled for 1 hour and follow-ups are scheduled for 30 or 15 minutes as preferred: there is not a limit on number of visits used to complete assessment nor is there a limit on number of follow-ups allowed though the overall goal is to provide access to as many primary care patients necessitating consultation and treatment as possible. Psychiatrist may occasionally act as liaison with County mental health system to help coordinate appropriate triage of patients to and from the county mental health services. Psychiatrist works under the general direction of the Mental Health Team Director.

    Areas of Responsibility:

    · Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats psychiatric disorders

    · Determines and prescribes appropriate course of treatment.

    · Advocates for the best interest of the patient.

    · Interest in psychotherapy and conservative medication management.

    Education/Experience:

    · Graduate from an accredited medical school

    · Board Certified MD with current California License and DEA

    · Three or more years’ experience psychiatric care in a clinic setting preferred

    Licenses and Certifications:

    · State of California Physician and Surgeons license

    · Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry

    · Must maintain CME as required for certification renewals.

    · Must be CPR Certified.

    Salary Scale: $245,000 to $313,026 per year  
    The compensation amounts listed above do not include relocation assistance, sign-on bonus, productivity or quality/service incentives, call pay, extra shift incentives, if applicable to the position.
