Psychiatrist jobs in Portsmouth, NH

Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.       • The Psychiatrist provides the medical leadership to the multidisciplinary teams in the treatment of patients in the Maine Behavioral Healthcare continuum of care. He/She directs the treatment team planning process pharmacologic and therapeutic interventions. 
    • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
      • Education: Graduate of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medical School. Completion of internship and psychiatric residency and/or fellowship training.
      • License/Certifications: Current and valid licensure as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or be eligible for examination by the American Board as documented by written evidence. Board Certified or board eligible in general psychiatry. Current DEA Registration Certificate.
      • Experience: 3 years experience inclusive residency and/or fellowship training.
      • Meet other credentialing criteria defined in Medical Staff By-laws
