JOB SUMMARY
The recovery coach identifies clients’ needs and connects them with resources to help remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, links the recovering person to the recovery community and serves as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery. The relationship with clients is an advocate. The development of such a relationship is a key step in successful treatment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Inspire confidence in the individual’s ability to change
2. Help to find resources to solve immediate problems.
3. Help family to learn about the experience their loved one is going through in their recovery journey.
4. Help the individual to create a circle of support (Family Members, Elders, Therapist, Social Worker, Physician, Friends, etc.)
5. Assist the individual and family in developing a plan for recovery.
6. Provide referral to appropriate resources and education at various stages of recovery.
7. Assist individual with acquiring appropriate documents such as driver’s license, food stamps etc.
8. Identify sobriety based social activities in the community.
9. Provide regular feedback, encouragement and support to individual and family members.
10. Provide early intervention to help individual overcome the urge to relapse.
11. Assist individual in getting back on track when relapse occurs.
12. Provide reassurance and support to family members when relapse occurs.
13. Encourage the individual to reach out to others in recovery and to provide encouragement and support to others.
14. Maintain the schedule, posting timely, honoring time off requests, and covering called off shifts with available staff.
15. Work to continually improve skills seeking training in areas where needs/goals have been identified.
16. Document progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, evaluations and all other required paperwork in a timely fashion according to policy and procedure.
17. Maintain your credentials and required trainings to satisfy your licensure and/or insurance otherwise immediate suspension of employment will be needed.
18. Maintain valid car insurance, driver’s license, and car registration always otherwise immediate suspension of employment will be needed.
19. Other tasks assigned as needed.
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
1. Respond to routine and emergency contacts from clients and/or staff.
2. Openly acknowledge difficulty in managing any particular case and seek support and supervision from direct supervisor.
3. Provide transportation services to clients as assigned.
4. Expect self and co-workers to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and
immediately bring to the supervisor’s attention any concerns or violations.
5. Assist with activities of weekly house meetings at all locations and document electronically, including attendees and agenda.
6. Assist with providing orientation to all new residents including Narcan policy/procedures, training, coordination of care, rules agreement, intake and house introductions.
7. Establish and maintain relationships with others in community to promote recovery estates.
8. Keep the houses stocked with all needed supplies including any provided resident needs, testing supplies, staff/coach needs, and literature/paperwork (coordinate funds with SUD Administrator, submitting any and all receipts within the week of purchase).
9. Assist to ensure appropriate aftercare planning for exiting residents is complete and their file is appropriately secured/returned to SPSI.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma.
LICENSURE: Valid driver’s license and CPRC or CCAR certification. Ability to be insured in the state of Michigan under the company’s vehicle insurance company.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year experience in a mental health or substance use disorder (SUD) setting required.

4. Knowledge of local community resources and referrals related to substance use, health care, and basic needs.
5. Excellent verbal communication skills working with diverse groups and individuals.
6. Ability to work effectively with men and women of diverse races, ethnicity, ages, sexual orientations, and drug use patterns, in a multicultural environment.
