    Nature of Work

    Conduct psychological evaluations; provide individual and group counseling; serve as consultant to special education and regular education teachers regarding student behavioral problems; make referrals to community agencies when necessary; provide crisis intervention; and demonstrate knowledge of special education law and IEP procedures.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    ● Adhere to the American Psychological Association (APA) and National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) ethical principles.

    ● Develop professional relationships with parents, administrators, colleagues, students, community agency professionals and other community members.

    ● Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.

    ● Consultation and Collaboration: Provide consultation to and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents and other appropriate personnel in order to facilitate the effective implementation of innovative and outcome based behavioral and academic interventions, which promote proactive social emotional learning and academic achievement.

    ● Work collaboratively with staff to develop, initiate, revise and incorporate behavior strategies to support student learning and success.

    ● Psychological Assessment: Conduct psychological and psycho-educational assessments of student’s strengths and challenges. Evaluations may include assessment of personality, emotional status, social communication skills, academic knowledge and achievement, sensory and perceptual-motor functioning, family environmental influences, level of acculturation and career and vocational development.

    ● IEP Committee Participation: Discuss evaluation results and recommendations with the IEP committee in language understandable by all present.

    ● Counseling: Provide direct mental health services to special education students according to their IEP that may include providing services in various programs such as intensive behavioral intervention programs, autism sites, alternative academic settings.

    ● Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention services for students at risk for harm to self or others (This may take the form of evaluation, intervention and/or referral to an appropriate community agency.)

    ● Community Referral: Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of community referral resources for the mental health needs of students and their families.

    ● Report Writing: Complete necessary progress reports, correspondence, and psychological evaluations in a timely manner in collaboration with the Eligibility Determination Team (EDT).

    ● Monitor Academic Progress: Regularly monitor students’ progress on IEP goals and objectives through observation and data collection (When necessary, reformulate intervention plans.)

    ● Professional Development: Attend staff meetings, in-service meetings and conferences to develop and enhance professional knowledge and skills.

    ● Exhibit professionalism by maintaining good attendance and adhering to established work schedule.

    ● Comply with the Code of Ethics, administrative directives, board policies, state and federal statues and rules and regulations.

    ● Communicate and display courteous and professional behavior toward students, the public, the Immediate Supervisor, School and District Administrators, staff and peers.

    ● Safeguard the confidentiality of information pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable state and federal statutes.

    ● Evenings and weekend work may be required.

    ● Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Level 1

    · Master’s Degree or Ed. S. Degree in school psychology or equivalent or Doctoral degree in school, clinical or counseling psychology.

    · Passing score on the required licensure examination in school psychology.

    2. Level 2

    · Ed. S. Degree in school psychology or equivalent or Doctoral degree in school, clinical or counseling psychology.

    · Passing score on the required licensure examination in school psychology.

    · Three years of experience as a school psychologist in the State of New Mexico.

    3. Level 3

    · Doctoral degree in school, clinical or counseling psychology.

    · Passing score on the required licensure examination in school psychology.

    · Licensed as a psychologist by the New Mexico Board.

    · Three years of experience as a school psychologist in the State of New Mexico.

    4. Must pass background check.

    Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

    Knowledge of: various machines and equipment including but not limited to computer, telephone, instructional technology.

    Ability to: verbal ability required to understand oral and written instructions; motor coordination required to coordinate eyes, hands and fingers when operating machines and equipment essential to the job; manual and finger dexterity required to operate machines and equipment precisely and rapidly.
