Public Relations Director directs and implements a company's public relations strategies. Manages media relations, announcements, editorial placement, and speaking opportunities. Being a Public Relations Director evaluates and authorizes all forms of communication regarding the organization for release to the public. Develops press releases, white papers and supporting materials. Additionally, Public Relations Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Public Relations Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Public Relations Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. We have an opening for a full-time Public Relations Coordinator whose core assignment is to provide community outreach and public relations oversight activities on mega transportation projects. The candidate must possess excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to manage other staff, work independently, and manage multiple deadlines. They should have the flexibility to work and travel for meetings in the evening and must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF editors, multimedia skills, contact management software, and able to read construction project schedules. Spanish speaking, experience with graphics software, and construction are desirable.

     

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Attend construction meetings and review project schedules.
    • Summarize project status for the clients/owners and for appropriately for the public.
    • Finalize letters, check public notices, press releases, and other media materials.
    • Ensure that data is correctly entered into contact databases.
    • Review and red-line newsletter and briefing reports.
    • Check notes during meetings and prepare minutes after the event.
    • Manage the planning and set up of community meetings.
    • Attending community meetings. 
    • Check the accuracy of translated materials.

     

    Qualifications and Experience_

    • 5-years of experience working on the design
    • Construction projects of over $10 million
    • Ability to read blueprints and infrastructure plans
    • Knowledge of heavy construction operations associated with roads, bridges, and major utilities.
    • Associates degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

     

    Skills and Competencies_

    • Must have good communication skills
    • Excellent coordination, written, and oral communication skills are required
    • Ability to manage other staff
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
