    • Education - Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English, Communications or a related field.
    • Experience - Three (3) years of experience in higher education, public or media relations, or newspaper experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
    • Skills - Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities; ability to lead and train staff and/or students; knowledge of journalism, public relations and general communications principles and practices; ability to use independent judgment and maintain the highest level of confidentiality to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other internal and external audiences; ability to develop and maintain documents using various electronic media; ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops; knowledge of electronic communications applications, including the Internet; strategic planning skills; program development, management, and evaluation skills; advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Manages all aspects of the LCCC Public Relations and External Affairs Department, locally and statewide, to include media contacts, queries, interviews, and press conferences, preparing news releases and media kits, and promoting story lines for all areas of the College including but not limited to the promotion of academic and non-academic programming, staff and student initiatives and activities including student athlete and team highlights, and community-related initiatives; serves as primary contact and field all contacts from the media; provides direct and proactive advice, consultation, and assistance to College leadership in the development and implementation of key messages and college relations strategies; interacts directly with LCCC senior leadership on public relations and external affairs issues; writes news and feature articles, news advisories and public service announcements for print, electronic media and other publications; proactively develops and maintains positive relationships with media representatives both locally and across the State; contacts media for coverage of College events and to provide story ideas; complies information for responses to media inquiries and arranges for follow up; develops, prepares, and conducts training for LCCC faculty and staff prior to the granting of an interview with press representatives; analyzes and evaluates the outcomes of the Public Relations and External Affairs Department and develops strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of media interactions, as required; prepares and disseminates periodic reports to senior leadership quantifying the value of the print and broadcast stories that result from media interactions; conducts frequent outreach visits and campus visits with media outlets locally and statewide to establish personal contacts and keep them informed regarding LCCC services and contacts; serves as public information contact and spokesperson for the College and maintains communications with internal College constituencies and staff on public information issues; write and coordinate the LCCC newsletter in a digital format; complies and proofreads faculty and staff submissions for the campus newsletter; serves as the single point of contact for in-house information; coordinates in-house information dissemination; notify in-house channels of activities, events, cancellations, programs, course offerings, etc; develops, coordinates and implements the Public Relations and External Affairs portion of the LCCC Communications Strategic Plan; leads and trains lower graded staff and/or student employees, as required; supervises the College Photographer and Secretary for Public Relations and External Affairs, assign work and work schedules, adjusts priorities, consults with Executive Director of Institutional Advancement on approval/disapproval of leave for Photographic Technician and Marketing and News Assistant and Secretary for Public Relations and External Affairs, conducts performance evaluation of the Photographic Technician and Marketing and News Assistant and Secretary for Public Relations and External Affairs; coordinate all photo assignments for publicity and publications; develops and implements the Public Relations and External Affairs Department budget; performs other related duties as assigned.

    Entry Salary: $66,929.35/annual

    Standard Work Week: 35 hours
