Public Relations Manager develops and implements policies and procedures for the public relations department. Maintains favorable public image for employer or client by communicating programs, accomplishments, and/or points of view. Being a Public Relations Manager evaluates all forms of communications before release to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of message and authorizes release. Prepares and distributes news releases, fact sheets, scripts, etc. to media outlets. Additionally, Public Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Public Relations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Public Relations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Summary
    The Public Services Manager at a small academic library is a full-time, professional staff position reporting to the Director of the Learning Resource Center/Head Librarian. At least one year of library experience, with academic experience preferred.
    The Public Services Manager plays a vital role in helping students succeed at Spartanburg Methodist College. You will be responsible for managing interlibrary loan services, overseeing student workers, creating marketing materials, developing engaging library displays, and providing reference services to the college community.
    Major Areas of Responsibility:
    • Strong customer service skills and an understanding of patron-driven library services
    • Commitment to excellent customer service and strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem-solving, and knowledge of professional trends
    • Ability to strategize and set and complete goals
    • Competence in tools such as LibGuides, Alma/Primo, Social Media, Zoom, and Microsoft Office products
    • Manage ILL and PASCAL requests
    • Oversee work study students
    • Create social media posts and signage
    • Create dynamic monthly displays
    • Follow best practices for cataloging new materials
    • Assist in supervising and training of support staff
    As part of a small academic library, all librarians/staff provide circulation services which may include communicating policies and procedures, managing fines and fees, answering reference questions, and recording library statistics.
    Promotes the library and College on campus and in the community.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
    • Proficiency in LibGuides, Alma/Primo, Social Media, Zoom, and Microsoft Office products
    • Due to the rapidly changing environment of the information world, the successful candidate will need to be flexible, willing to explore new areas and learn new skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
    • Education or experience providing library reference assistance, either in-person and/or virtual.
    Required Physical Abilities
    Light physical exertion that includes moving around the library.
    Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis, sit and use a computer for a long period of time.
    Manual and physical dexterity are needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents.
    Sufficient near vision acuity to read information appearing on a computer display screen, in hand-written form, and printed on paper.
    Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
