    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Performs routine (journey-level) counseling or psychological work. Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, provides direct professional services including conducting trauma-informed group, family, and individual counseling; and administration and interpretation of psychological evaluations of youth in need of specialized treatment services or preparing for release from TJJD. Assists in monitoring the agency approved Texas Model of Trauma Informed Corrections program, conducts specialized treatment and/or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups, reviews, and monitors special individual and group treatment programs. May conduct in-service training, and provide in-service training for para-professionals based on evidence based, trauma-informed treatment. May serve as a Violent Offender Program specialized treatment program group co-facilitator and/or a co-facilitator of DBT skills groups. May assist with planning, developing, and implementing the agency program.

    Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Conducts trauma informed psychological evaluations. (10%)

    Participates in clinical staffing and treatment team meetings; incorporates specific recommendations regarding transition planning, risk management, and appropriate behavioral interventions in individual therapy treatment plans; and provides consultation to case managers, direct care staff, and other TJJD professionals for holistic clinical care of youth under the supervision of the licensed psychologist. (10%)

    Provides a range of direct trauma-informed therapeutic services, including individual, group, and family psychotherapy, and documents clinical services provided. (50%)

    Provides consultation to a range of agency staff on trauma-informed assessments, treatment, adaptations and modifications, intervention, functional behavioral assessment plans, clinical and behavioral management of youth referred with special needs or problems, and group monitoring. (5%)

    Contributes to the development, maintenance, and delivery of in-service training designed to improve the clinical performance of facility staff and demonstrates progress towards meeting professional and education objectives. (5%)

    Engages in and adheres to agreed upon professional development objectives developed in collaboration with the clinical supervisor; and accepts and incorporates feedback and instructions provided by the clinical supervisor. (5%)

    Assists in providing consultative services and technical assistance for agency programs. May assist with the preparation of administrative reports, studies, and specialized projects. (5%)

    Assists with the review of program area operations to identify areas in need of change and assists with the development of plans to improve or address areas of concern. May assist in developing policy and procedure manuals. (5%)

    Reports any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities.

    Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

    Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:

    • Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.
    • Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested timeframes.

    Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.


    Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Selected as a doctoral practicum student.

    Practicum Requirements:

    • Employment is based on agreed upon requirements set by the agency and the applicant’s university.
    • Successful completion of the education requirements established by the accredited educational institution, including current enrollment in a clinical psychology doctoral program in good academic standing, and is eligible for an external clinical practicum placement according to the standards/guidelines of the educational institution.
    • The duration of employment is for twelve (12) months from the date of hire.

    Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be from an accredited educational institution.

    Pre-employment conditions require acceptable results from mandatory:

    • pre-employment drug test;
    • finger printing, criminal records check, and TB testing;
    • Fitness-for-Duty Assessment which may include both physical and behavior evaluations.

    • Diagnostic criteria outlined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition (DSM 5), and the Texas Education Association for the evaluation of serious emotional disturbance.

    • Provide services to potentially aggressive/combative youth in a correctional setting with a wide variety of temperaments (volatile, mentally, ill, suicidal) and specialized needs (chemically dependent, sexual offenders, emotionally disturbed, etc.).
    • Work under stressful conditions, with possible occurrences of extreme heightened stress.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • To treat youth with respect in all situations.
    • Remain alert, observant, and physically able to respond appropriately to work situations or emergencies including, but not limited to, physical restraint of youth.
    • React quickly and effectively to diffuse hazardous, combative, volatile situations.
    • Participate in ongoing didactic training as scheduled by the agency.
    • Work in excess of 20 hours per workweek, and travel, when required.
