MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN (ASSOCIATION OFFICE)

  • Position Summary:
    This position supports the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina’s marketing and communications department. Under the direction of the marketing and communications director, the marketing and public relations intern will assist in developing content for the organization’s website, social media pages, email communications, and press releases.
     
    While the time frame for this internship is intended to be for the remainder of spring semester, February – May 2024, the internship may be extended through summer 2024 based on performance.
     
    FLSA Status: Temporary, part-time, hourly at $12.50-$13.50/hour based on experience 
     
     
    Essential Functions:
    • Works with marketing team to develop and implement effective marketing and communication strategies to enhance the organization’s image and position within the community and marketplace.
    • Assists in writing and proofreading press releases. Press release topics may include YMCA community events, fundraising efforts, organizational growth, and more.
    • Assists in managing the Y’s social media pages by gathering content, monitoring post engagement, and responding to comments and messages.
    • Works with all YMCA of Southeastern NC branches to gather content for monthly and quarterly newsletters and uses email software to create newsletter drafts.
     
    Qualifications:
    • Must be a student, have a bachelor’s degree, or have experience in a field related to marketing, public relations, communications, or journalism.
    • Must have outstanding time management and project management skills.
    • Must be a detail-oriented individual who pays close attention to using correct grammar and can follow branding guidelines.
     
    Desired Skills:
    • Experience writing press releases and corresponding with media outlets.
    • Basic graphic designs skills and familiarity with Adobe programs and Canva.
