Public School Teacher jobs in Benton Harbor, MI

Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. To be a Public School Teacher typically requires 2 -4 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement, qualified to teach in Michigan
    • Highly Qualified by ESSA Standards
    • High level of communication skills
    • Ability to help create positivity and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
    • Must pass a criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Prior teaching/student teaching experience
    • Enthusiastic, energetic & highly organized
    • Experience with differentiated instruction strategies to benefit all learners and meet the needs of individual students

    Professional Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Manage a safe, comfortable learning environment.
    • Demonstrate consistent, effective management of student behavior.
    • Demonstrate professional conduct and exhibit professional growth.
    • Playground/ Recess supervision, as needed.
    • Maintain student confidentiality in thorough and secure record-keeping following FERPA, IDEA, and HIPPA guidelines when needed.
    • Participate in meetings as required by the school, district, or laws, to address student needs.
    • Ability to form and maintain working and professional relationships with district staff and parents.
    • Possesses the skill and willingness to ensure that students’ social and emotional needs are addressed.
    • Developing and implementing individualized programs of instruction to meet the needs of students.
    • Participating as an educational team member for the success of all students.
    • Uses technology to enhance lessons and stay current with changing trends.
