Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.       About the Position
      This is a general posting that will be used to generate an applicant pool for secondary summer school teaching positions. Teachers will be expected on-site to support in-person high school students (grades 9-12) in the following areas: English, Social Studies, Math, Science, PE/Health, and Special Education. While applications will be accepted from both internal and external applicants, preference will be given to internal applicants. A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate is required for these positions.

      Summer School Teacher Responsibilities
      The Summer School Teacher will act as a support for students participating in the summer session. Duties include:

      • Attend required orientation and training
      • Monitoring student progress
        • Helping students set daily goals for coursework
        • Following through with students to ensure they have met daily goals
      • Responding promptly to student questions
      • Reading and responding to email frequently
      • Monitoring assessments
      • Communicating with families and students
      • Making phone or email contact with students and families when students are not making adequate progress or have not started a course they are enrolled in
      • Initiate occasional meetings with small groups of students as needed
      • Maintaining consistent office hours for students and families
      • Other job duties as needed

      Key Information/Dates

      • Staff Orientation and Training July 6, 2023 (Training will take place in varying degrees based on prior experience and training.)
      • Summer School runs July 10, 2023 - August 3, 2023, M-Th, 8:00-12:30

      Salary
      Hourly position paid via timesheet: $49.53 per hour as a teacher and $26.76 per hour for required training on July 6, 2023.

      Required Qualifications
      Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
