Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • TEACHER STARTING SALARY IS $48,700. Additional Referendum money is available for the next four years starting at $5400 for the 23-24 school year; teachers hired during the school year will receive a prorated supplement amount based on the date of hire.

     

    Job Summary

     

    Provides counseling services for students by designing and implementing a multi-layered, comprehensive, and accountable guidance program in which equity, access, and academic success for all students is the focus.  Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.  Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

    Essential Functions

     

    1. Designs and implements a data-driven, comprehensive guidance program to meet the academic, career, and social/personal needs of students at the school as outlined in the District School Counseling Plan. Supervises the maintenance and procedures regarding student records.
    2. Conducts classroom guidance activities focused on academic, career, and social emotional learning.
    3. Monitors each student’s State Assessment requirements and course requirements for promotion and/or graduation.
    4. Implements, in conjunction with teachers and staff, the district career program to provide for students information on curriculum and specific programs; postsecondary opportunities; scholarships and financial aid; and career opportunities.
    5. Makes student referrals to school and community agencies and provides regular and appropriate feedback to teachers.
    6. Offers developmental and preventive individual and group counseling for all students.
    7. Conducts planned articulation and orientation program for feeder schools.
    8. Serves as a resource person for school staff on guidance-related activities and techniques.
    9. Coordinates district/community counseling services conducted in the school, including the services of the student services team that serves the school.
    10. Provides students, parents, and teachers with appropriate and necessary support, consultative services, and training.
    11. Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Education:  Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

     

    Experience:  None.

     

    Certifications & Licenses:  Florida Department of Education Specialization Requirements for Certification in Guidance and Counseling.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    • Knowledge of Florida Statutes governing promotion, graduation, state assessment program, compulsory school attendance, credits, Florida Virtual School, and home school
    • Knowledge of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Exceptional Student Education services eligibility requirements
    • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act
    • Knowledge of subject content
    • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Strong time management skills
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills
    • Ability to plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
    • Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading papers and preparation of lesson plans

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks
