Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Upper School Spanish Teacher to join our team for the 2024-2025 academic year.

    Position Overview:
    The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator capable of teaching Spanish across all levels, from Level I to AP Spanish V. We value expertise in additional languages, although it is not a prerequisite. Our Spanish program is rooted in a communicative approach, emphasizing oral proficiency from the onset and gradually integrating reading, writing, and listening skills to produce well-rounded linguists.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Implement a communicative approach to language teaching, ensuring students develop confidence in their oral Spanish skills from the earliest levels.
    • Engage students in immersive Spanish-speaking activities, particularly in advanced classes, to foster a deep understanding and fluency in the language.
    • Balance the four fundamental language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), tailoring activities to the proficiency level of each class.
    • Employ both inductive and deductive teaching methods to enhance students' grammatical understanding and vocabulary.
    • Design and execute lesson plans that align with both short-term objectives and long-term educational goals, adapting to unforeseen challenges with flexibility.
    • Maintain a disciplined yet creative classroom environment, encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and fostering independent learning.

    Qualifications


    Qualifications:

    • Near-native or superior fluency in Spanish, with a strong command of grammatical structures and an expansive vocabulary.
    • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
    • Valid teaching certification in Spanish or World Languages.
    • Proven experience in teaching Spanish at various levels, with a preference for candidates who have taught AP Spanish.
    • Demonstrated ability to implement a communicative and immersive approach to language teaching.
    • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to blend structure and creativity to enhance student engagement and learning.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the capacity to design lessons that meet diverse learning objectives.
