Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Classroom Instructor
    Job Description

    Purpose: The Classroom Instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Classroom Instructor must work closely with other staff and the administration of Derby Public Schools.

    Responsible to: Principal and/or Program Director
    Salary: Annual Contract
    Date: January 2013

    Qualifications:
    1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university.
    2. Current Kansas State Teaching License on file in the Central Office.
    3. Desire to continue career improvement.

    27. Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.

    ESOL Endorsement Requirements:
    Elementary classroom teachers, as well as middle and high school level language arts teachers are required to hold an ESOL endorsement by the end of their third year with the district. Currently, this endorsement can be added by testing (no college courses are required). The district will provide a study session for the praxis exam and reimburse teachers for cost of 1 exam.
