    Job Description

    Our Mission:

    Shift and travel:

    Days, occasional travel required; some overnight, must respond to emergency situations as required

    Location: Ames - 50010 - Story County, IA

    The Team: A team of mechanics, fabricators, welders, and office staff to effectively lead the Repair Shop.

    Preferred Characteristics:

    The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter and has extensive knowledge, understanding and experience in heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, hydraulics, and automotive electrical components. The ability to prioritize tasks, critically think and make decisions is key in this role. In addition, thorough communication with both field personnel and management to achieve goals and objectives is essential.

    Duties/Desired Abilities:

    • Understands and has ability to manage resources and budgets
    • Provides effective leadership and resolves issues
    • Supervises and evaluates employee s performance
    • Oversees all new System Ops A/B equipment preparation and delivery
    • Working with field mechanics, assists in the diagnostics and repair on equipment used in the districts
    • Training and informing mechanics in new technology as well as maintenance and repairs required on new equipment
    • Oversight on the inspection of the mechanical condition of equipment to determine the feasibility to repair; writes recommendations relative to the repair or replacement of the equipment
    • Approve repairs on equipment and work with Equipment Services to approve needed repairs
    • Coordinate emergency backup generator service and inspections
    • Responds to inquiries from districts and coordinates repairs

    License: A valid CDL must be possessed and maintained

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    1) Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and experience equal to four years of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; specialized technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations.
    2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
    a. Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent); and
    b. One year of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations; and
    c. A total of three years of education and full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
