Punch Press Operator configures and operates electrically powered presses to cut, shape, and form metal, plastic, or other materials used in manufacturing operations. Performs operations such as blanking, bending, punching, and forming based on blueprints and other instructions. Being a Punch Press Operator responsibilities include configuring equipment and calibrating gauge settings, recognizing condition of dies, loading materials onto the equipment, feeding material through die, and positioning and removing parts from the die. Keeps a record of operational data and performs routine equipment maintenance. Additionally, Punch Press Operator monitors work schedule to ascertain production information, such as size, type, and quantity to be processed. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Punch Press Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Once Trained:
• Must know the steps involved in setting up the press and support the operator by staying at least one step or more ahead of the process so anything needed to complete the process is in hand exactly when needed
• Keep squeegees and flood bars clean and ready (check for rough edges before installing)
• When the job starts to print this position switches to one of quality control at the unload station
• Must have previously printed shirt sample in view and assure that everything coming of the press matches
• Constantly check for proper ink coverage, registration, and print position ( it is at this station that we have the best opportunity to correct anything that might be wrong with the print)
• Once the print is complete and the catcher at the end of the dryer verifies the quantity and quality help tear down the job and start the process over for the next job
