Punch Press Operator configures and operates electrically powered presses to cut, shape, and form metal, plastic, or other materials used in manufacturing operations. Performs operations such as blanking, bending, punching, and forming based on blueprints and other instructions. Being a Punch Press Operator responsibilities include configuring equipment and calibrating gauge settings, recognizing condition of dies, loading materials onto the equipment, feeding material through die, and positioning and removing parts from the die. Keeps a record of operational data and performs routine equipment maintenance. Additionally, Punch Press Operator monitors work schedule to ascertain production information, such as size, type, and quantity to be processed. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Punch Press Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Entry-level position under the direct supervision of the sheet metal shop supervisor, the Press Brake Operator II runs computer-controlled machines that cut, shape, and design various materials. Their main duties include troubleshooting machines for any malfunctions or irregularities, fixing machine parts as needed to ensure they operate properly and conducting quality checks on the machines. General cleanup of machines and housekeeping.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    • Operate RG-80 Press Brake.
    • The ability to prepare complex setups and punch press operations. Using computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment.
    • Interpret blueprints or plans for the finished product.
    • The ability to prepare and run complex bend setups and forming operations.
    • Complex programming using all features of the punch press.
    • Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications using gauge and hand tools.
    • Must have a full understanding of print reading and geometric tolerances and how they relate to the finished part.
    • Thorough understanding of flat pattern layout.
    • Install, align and lock specified punches.
    • Interpret orders to determine specifications of tolerances, dimensions, and cutting lines.
    • Set up, operate, and tend machines on production runs in their area of responsibility.
    • Inspect completed workpieces.
    • Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data. Set stops on machine beds, change dies and adjust components.
    • Understand the use of all appropriate safety guards.
    • Identify areas for process improvement, cost, and waste reduction.
    • Work with ERP system, PLEX, as required.
    • Work in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Keep the work area, including machine surfaces clean at all times.
    • Performs all job functions in a safe manner following all established safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    • Minimum 2 years of experience years experience as a Press Break Operator is preferred.
    • Must be able to read blueprints.
    • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
    • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing for demands, and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
    • Be able to determine causes of operating errors and decide to recommend solutions.
    • Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited: to geometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
    • Reading and interpreting geometric tolerances related to the finished part.
    • Thorough understanding of flat pattern layout
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.

    • Must be able to speak/hear to fulfill verbal communications and respond to machine alarms/buzzers.
    • Occasional exposure to noise, gas/fumes/mists, and chemicals or hazardous materials while using personal protective equipment when required.
    • Perform all job functions in a safe manner following all established safety guidelines, policies and procedures.
    • Must wear steel toe shoes & safety glasses.
    • Must be able to work extended hours per the demands of the business.
