What you'll do

As the Purchasing Manager for Spartan® RV Chassis (A Shyft Group Brand) based in Charlotte, MI, you will be accountable for overseeing our supply chain team and for managing the global supply chain including suppliers in the U.S., China, Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries.

In addition, you will play a critical role in identifying and implementing cost reduction initiatives, developing value stream improvements with suppliers, overseeing all strategic sourcing activities, including cost targeting, supplier performance metrics, supplier development, risk mitigation and VA/VE initiatives.

You will also be responsible for:

• Identifying cost saving opportunities in low-cost countries for metal fabrication, aluminum extrusions, wood related raw materials and hardware components and managing relationships with our suppliers
• Building and maintaining contacts and relationships in global regions
• Collaborating with engineering, quality, and suppliers for project implementation
• Identifying, developing, and implementing strategic sourcing initiatives for items or commodities
• Managing local supply chain initiatives and providing support toward closing target gaps
• Overseeing supplier risk assessment and implementing a reporting structure
• Mitigating risk by implementing Long Term Supplier Agreements with strategic suppliers
• Maintaining an understanding of actual versus target achievement for each individual contributor
• Creating and developing professional training plans for each team member of your team
• Leading negotiations of critical long-term agreements with our supply base
• Identifying and implementing VA/VE activities with cross functional teams
• Utilizing commodity pricing, currency fluctuations, and global labor rates to achieve agreements with suppliers on cost transparency
• Applying formal project management principles to your work
• Influencing others to meet milestones and coordinating work of others
• Successfully aligning suppliers' operating plans to achieve company goals
• Performing market research to understand global influences on the supply base and creating strategies to leverage these dynamics for the benefit of the company
• Applying quality and engineering concepts at a high level with internal and external resources
• Supporting special projects and the continuous improvement of processes and systems

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials Management, Finance, Engineering, or Operations
• 8 year of procurement expertise with exposure to a variety of manufacturing processes and commodities
• Extensive knowledge that covers the spectrum of business operations, including finance, accounting, legal issues, materials management, engineering, quality assurance, and manufacturing
• A track record of meeting and exceeding procurement targets
• Well-versed in cost analysis, negotiations, and managing people in remote locations
• Understanding of prepared financial statements and the ability to interpret and assign meaning to income statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets
• Ability to be creative, innovative, and attentive to detail
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to travel occasionally as needed, including internationally to meet with suppliers

• A background in sourcing products overseas (globally)
• CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) certification
• Plex ERP experience
• Bilingual in English, Mandarin or Spanish
