Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Director oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Purchasing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Samson, the worldwide leader in high performance cordage, is seeking a Director of Purchasing and Supply Chain who will be responsible for directing the overall global supply chain operations including purchasing and logistics functions to meet strategic objectives in support of revenue initiatives by delivering the highest quality product with speed and reliability while utilizing a high degree of innovation and flexibility and managing total cost. The Director of Purchasing and Supply Chain will also practice a high level of business ethics, quality, professionalism, and safety in all activities in accordance with Samson strategy and core values.


    Who You Are:

    • An expert in global supply chain management and international trade regulations.
    • Proficient in supply chain software and ERP systems.
    • Knowledgeable of manufacturing process, inventory and warehouse management, scheduling, and freight/logistics processes with a proven ability to develop and execute organizational strategy.
    • An expert in strategic sourcing and vendor management. 
    • Experienced in digital transformation projects within supply chain contexts.
    • A seasoned problem solver with the ability to define and analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, identify root causes, and draw valid conclusions to drive creative solutions to problems.
    • A strong communicator who can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and present information in a concise and effective way.
    • Knowledgeable of sustainability practices in supply chain operations.
    • Detail-oriented.
    • A polished and skilled presenter with the ability to gauge what the audience needs to understand the message, including Executive Leadership.
    • Equipped with a passport and able to travel. 

    What You’ll Do:

    • Direct the functions of the purchasing, logistics, warehousing, and inventory control.
    • Lead the strategic planning and execution of global supply chain activities.
    • Participate in development of Company strategy.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, lean thinking, and positive employee morale across functions in support of organizational objectives.
    • Develop and enhance processes and procedures within primary areas of responsibility through continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Develop metrics and make continuous improvements in material costs, lead times, inventory turns, warehouse space utilization, and inventory accuracy.
    • Identify, promote, and deliver cost-reduction initiatives without compromising product or service quality.
    • Direct development of strong supplier relationships, contract negotiations that optimize value for the organization, and scheduling systems ensuring material availability and timely delivery of products to customers while minimizing inventory investment.
    • Collaborate with other departments to align supply chain strategies and activities with overall business goals.
    • Manage and mentor the supply chain team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

    What You Should Have:

    Education

    • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field. 
    • Desired: Advanced degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. Professional certification such as CPM, CPSM, CPP or APICS CPIM.

    Experience

    • Required: 10 years relevant global procurement, supply chain, or operations experience with 5 years of management experience.
    • Desired:  Multilingual or working knowledge of Spanish and/or French a plus.

    Compensation:

    Targeted hiring wage: $151,500 - $189,500 annually

    Hiring rate will depend on qualifications and experience.


    Samson has established wage scales for all of our positions, which are based on a minimum and maximum. The targeted hiring rate above is set to allow for employee’s growth within the role. The full range for this position is $151,426 (min) - $227,140 (max) annually.
