Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Director oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Purchasing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Position Summary

    Performs activities related to the purchasing of indirect materials including but not limited to packaging materials, repair parts, and contract services, which support effective production at the manufacturing plant. Working closely with operations and maintenance personnel within the plant, responsible for the day-to-day purchasing transactions that occur within the site. Serves as the plant liaison in support of the corporate procurement and facility activities related to contracts/pricing projects for both capital and non-capital purchases according to established policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Performs indirect purchasing functions according to corporate policies and procedures, maintaining sufficient inventory levels that support production and maintenance requirements.
    • Manages maintenance stores from receipt through consumption of spare/ replacement parts by part number against established min/ max levels according to established procedures.
    • Manages Plant Super Store from receipt through consumption of indirect supplies by part number against established min/ max levels according to established procedures and software.
    • Addresses any and all pricing discrepancies. Maintains ERP purchasing module keeping PO's current by closing old PO's/releases, and ensuring available to promise information is up to date and accurate
    • Represents the corporate procurement team at the local site and will lead the efforts to support initiatives within the plant.
    • Leads effort to support all procurement yearly objectives at the local site
    • Acts as primary contact between local site and all suppliers to facilitate communication and quick response of requirements and issues.
    • Provides capital project support for the facility as assigned.
      • Works with project managers to maintain approved requirements and guidelines for Capital purchases
      • Support assigned capital buyer and/or lead capital project contract negotiations.
      • Assists project manager in maintaining project timelines with vendors.
      • Maintains and provides monthly reports on the year-to-date capital project spend to the engineering department.
      • Supports project managers in the receipt and storage of components against capital project number.
    • Supports "new" contract negotiations for local facility with all vendors, as directed by corporate procurement.
    • Maintains and provides monthly spend reports on year-to-date spend calculations to department leaders
    • Maintain and monitor all blanket PO's according to their expiration dates for all monthly services.
    • Work with account payable on approving invoices that do not match the purchase orders.
    • Manage contract renewals and amendments for as directed by corporate procurement.
    • Administer (negotiate/approve) and communicate all approved price increases from vendors.
    • Support accounting functions in daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and period close.

    Selection Criteria:

    • Education:
      • A Bachelor's Degree in a business major or related field required.
    • Experience:
      • Requires 2 years of experience with supply chain-related activities in, logistics, production control, inventory management, warehousing, and procurement - preferably in a manufacturing environment.
      • Advanced Microsoft Office experience required
      • ERP Experience required, JD Edwards is preferred but not required
      • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
      • Able to efficiently work independently and with groups.
      • Good interpersonal, communication, and problem - solving skills.
      • P/C proficiency in word, excel spreadsheets, MRP software and internet.
      • Ability to positively interact across the site and corporate organization.
      • Maintains and manages professional working relationships with all vendors.
      • Ability to control confidential information in a professional manner.
    • Other:

      • Physical Requirements: This position frequently works in an office environment within the manufacturing facility. The noise level is usually low. Hearing, eye, and foot protection are mandatory when engaged in activities in the plant. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to operate material handling equipment.
