Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Director oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Purchasing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Brooks Range Supply is needing to find a professional and customer-focused Purchasing Agent for our operations on the North Slope in the Deadhorse Aviation Center (DAC).  In this position, you will be responsible for researching and sourcing necessary parts and products, anticipating business needs, tracking inventory, and maintaining vendor relationships in support of our business.    

    The Purchasing Agent will procure supplies, equipment and services, reviewing requisition requests, prepare purchase orders and solicit bids for goods and services. The Purchasing Agent will also purchase goods and services according to Brooks Range Supply and organizational policies and procedures. This is a slope-based position and does require a Rotational Schedule commitment (2x2 or 3x3). 

    A day-to-day in this position will include researching goods and products, locating suppliers and soliciting services with purchase orders. Most interactions will be over-the-phone, but some in-person interactions should be expected. For all interactions the Purchasing Agent will be welcoming in a friendly and sincere manner, anticipating customer needs, and exceeding expectations to provide an exceptional experience from beginning to end.   


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provides administrative and clerical support to the department.
    • Types reports, purchase orders, memoranda, and other documents.
    • Researches vendors and collects prices, specifications, and other data related to goods and services.
    • Establishes and maintains recordkeeping system for purchasing department.
    • Purchases goods and services according to the company’s policies and procedures.
    • Coordinates with managers to maintain inventory levels.
    • Evaluates vendors based on price, reliability, capability, and previous transaction history.
    • Works with vendors to negotiate volume and cash transaction discounts, and other available discounts.
    • Ensures that purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include appropriate and reasonable terms and conditions.
    • Maintains pricing histories and other vendor records.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Reviews purchase order placement buyers for accuracy and optimum delivery and pricing.
    • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
    • Participate in the development of specifications for services, equipment, products, supplies or substitute materials.
    • Forecasts requirements and orders products to meet sales demands.
    • Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list; clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives.
    • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items.
    • Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in error with suppliers.
    • Manages fuel meter ticket tracker.
    • Keeps information accessible by sorting and filing documents.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to learn purchasing procedures and policies.
    • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelors degree in related field highly preferred.
    • At least two years of purchasing experience required.
    • Supply Management, Vendor Relationships
    • Excellent organizational & documentation Skills
    • Customer Service Skills
    • Manufacturing Quality & Cost Accounting 

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine purchasing needs.
    • May require travel.
