Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in accounting, production/operations management, engineering, business, or other related discipline and three or more years of progressively responsible positions in purchasing in a manufacturing environment, or other combination of education and experience may suffice. CPM, CMA or other related certification a plus. Experience in manufacturing beneficial.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and employees. Must have the ability to influence and persuade others.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with outside vendors, senior management, peers, customers and others within and outside of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical accounting concepts to practical situations. Must possess strong analytical and metric-based skills.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The employee needs to have extensive experience with using personal computers and Microsoft Software (WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT) and ERP systems (Lawson/Infor products preferred). Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. The ability to be flexible in work duties and to expand knowledge of the work area. Must be self-motivated and able to work with other team members and motivate direct reports.
