Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Director oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.   • SUMMARY: The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading purchasing operations including oversight of the day-to-day activities by ensuring appropriate engagement of all stakeholders in strategic sourcing activities. This position provides a rewarding team atmosphere where a forward-thinking and effective leader can advance the success of the organization.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

    • Manage the day to day tasks and responsibilities of the purchasing team members (buyers).
    • Leverage inventory management principles, processes and systems that improve and protect the accuracy of stock and non-stock inventory both physically and financially from purchase through delivery in full compliance with food safety regulations.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and contractors on price, contract terms and supplier consignment.
    • Use competitive bidding to obtain the best value for Seaboard Triumph Foods
    • Oversees the ordering of materials and supplies from vendors; prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price and obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items.
    • Collaborate with plant functional areas and purchasing team to effectively identify synergies and cost savings opportunities to completion, with measurable cost savings.
    • Maintains measurable performance metrics for procurement activities to include but not limited to supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, and material shortage elimination.
    • Develop and direct a robust supplier management program that sources qualified suppliers, maximizes competition for goods and services, readies back up suppliers to minimize risk and reduces overall lead time.
    • Act as a subject matter expert.
    • Ensure policies, processes and procedures are in place, followed and updated as necessary to ensure compliance.
    • Foster an environment of continuous process improvement to drive efficiency, increase accuracy, and sound decision making.
    • Assist with budget preparation, capital plans, and reports. Support the appropriation request (AR) process as requested from PO creation through invoice payment.
    • Lead staff training and development.
    • Conduct all business with vendors in a professional, arms-length manner to ensure the integrity of the Company and its employees is not compromised.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in accounting, production/operations management, engineering, business, or other related discipline and three or more years of progressively responsible positions in purchasing in a manufacturing environment, or other combination of education and experience may suffice. CPM, CMA or other related certification a plus. Experience in manufacturing beneficial.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and employees. Must have the ability to influence and persuade others.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with outside vendors, senior management, peers, customers and others within and outside of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical accounting concepts to practical situations. Must possess strong analytical and metric-based skills.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The employee needs to have extensive experience with using personal computers and Microsoft Software (WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT) and ERP systems (Lawson/Infor products preferred). Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. The ability to be flexible in work duties and to expand knowledge of the work area. Must be self-motivated and able to work with other team members and motivate direct reports.
