Purchasing Manager manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Manager collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Manager oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Purchasing Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Description

    Position Summary:

    The Purchasing Manager is responsible for supplying leadership and guidance to the buyers of all materials which includes support in areas of vendor management, inventory management, and quality assurance.  This individual is responsible for overseeing a team that purchases leather, fabric, chair frames and components, poly/cushions, metal parts, mechanisms, and all other sourced components.  Additional responsibilities include monitoring and improving vendor performance related to quality, delivery, payment, and any other concerns that might arise with the product or service.

    Position Details:

    • Develops a purchasing strategy.
    • Reviews and processes purchase orders.
    • Manages other members of the purchasing team.
    • Maintains records of goods ordered and received.
    • Builds and maintains relationships with vendors.
    • Selects prospective vendors and negotiates contracts.
    • Evaluates vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.
    • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities including supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial (AP) performance, and material shortage elimination.
    • Develop talent and appropriately manage performance to goals to ensure success of all individuals in the department.
    • Manage materials savings initiatives in line with overall business objectives.
    • Liaise with counterparts in other functional areas such as customer service, scheduling, and manufacturing to ensure alignment of activities and objectives.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • Collaborate with Inventory Management team to ensure accurate Forecasting and inventory planning.
    • Identify vendor opportunities and challenges and partner with the Product Management team to ensure appropriate resolution.
    • Establish perpetual inventory system for key components including mechanisms, casters, bases, and metal.
    • Maintains and distributes vendor scorecard.
    • Schedules deliveries and ensures timely fulfillment of orders.
    • Manages compliance to regulations for purchased materials.
    • Participates in new product development.
    • Manages inventory levels and determines supply needs.
    • Ensures quality of procured items and addresses problems if they arise.
    • Identify potential new or alternative suppliers to consider.
    • Communicates effectively with all stake holders within the business.
    • Travels to vendor locations.

    • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
    • Experience as a purchasing manager and/or agent.
    • Experience using procurement software and databases.
    • Experience in the contract furniture industry a plus.
    • Supervisory experience.
