Purchasing Supervisor supervises daily procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates pricing, monitors performance, and expedites to respond to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Supervisor collaborates with other functions to meet current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Supervisor performs auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Purchasing Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Purchasing Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
· Identify appropriate procurement strategies in compliance with company policies and procedures and implement them to achieve company cost and customer satisfaction goals.
· Pursue global procurement strategies to ensure timely and uninterrupted material flow, maximum productivity, and fulfill cost saving objectives.
· Investigate new and existing sources to hold or reduce costs.
· Primary point of contact for vendor related questions and concerns.
· Gain fluency with PEM ERP system to manage the orders and transactions associated with the Purchasing role.
· Review approved requisitions and place orders as required.
· Address any discrepancies with vendors directly.
· Perform follow-up and expediting activities.
· Independently solicit quotations.
· Handle adjustments and communication with vendors involving replacement of nonconforming material and cancellation of orders.
· Maintain Vendor Managed Inventory programs (VMI) and keeps all interested parties informed.
· Force vendors to compete for PEM’s business to ensure competitive pricing.
· Work with Receiving to ensure proper receipts and documentation.
· Work with Accounting to ensure proper payments to supplier base.
· Communicate delays and interruptions to the end users.
· Assist PennEngineering’s Quality Department in the maintenance of PennEngineering’s ISO9000 certificate.
· Process all purchase order requisitions submitted by the plant.
· Participate in the PennEngineering Global Purchasing Council as a liaison between the council and the general manager for the purpose of continuously reducing costs.
· Other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
· Associates degree in business or related program preferred. Relevant experience in lieu of degree.
· Good verbal communication skills, writing skills and the ability to present ideas and concepts to other interested parties.
· Familiar with the Microsoft suite of products.
· Familiarity of ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred)
