    Job Summary:
    The Director of Quality Assurance is an executive team member and is a strategic leader providing direction of quality systems for compliance with SQF, FDA, regulatory, and customer standards. This position oversees new product development and customer product specification changes. The Director of Quality Assurance provides leadership to the Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments that encourages team effort, collaboration, giving and receiving team member feedback, and team member development. As an executive team member this position will assist with problem identification, resolution, continuous improvement, and new strategies to align with the company’s family values, purpose, mission, and vision statements.
    Benefits – Medical, dental and vision; STD, LTD and Life company paid; 401k with company match. Employee pays only 15% of medical cost at $15.80/week for Single and $47.39/week for Family coverage (2023 Rates). Company contributes HSA dollars annually of $1,000 for a Single and $2,000 for a Family.
    Essential Job Functions:
    • Establish and maintain quality and food safety systems, standards, and procedures to ensure that food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory requirements are met for all raw materials, fermented products, and acidified finished good products.
    • Interact regularly with manufacturing and other operational departments. Act as an effective leader in supporting quality disciplines, decisions, and practices. Develop, execute, and analyze quality-reporting measures to ensure that production is maintained at such standards.
    • Lead and develop a high performing team through proper coaching, training, and counseling to ensure uniform interpretation and application of standards and procedures.
    • Oversee all new customer product R&D projects, specification development or revisions, and sample preparations. Additionally, will compute formulas, percentages, or production specific factors using chemical and mathematical procedures.
    • Oversee R&D projects related to food product packaging and complete tests required.
    • Identify and implement effective quality process control systems at the tank yard to ensure high quality fermented pickle stock.
    • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and ensuring that effective corrective action is implemented.
    • Drive continuous improvement and report to management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and staying up to date in food safety best practices, public health regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Achieves financial objectives by recommending the annual budgeted quality assurance and sanitation amounts, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
    Additional Responsibilities
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Directly supervises QA Coordinator, Food Safety and Compliance Coordinator, QA Specialist, and R&D Scientist.
    • Responsible for coaching Supervisors, Lab technicians, and Sanitation technicians to identify their skills and aspirations to build the training necessary for their empowerment and self-direction.
    • Create accountability by establishing clear and measurable standards and goals for the department, providing, and receiving constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement, and promoting personal responsibility.
    Position Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:
    • BS Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or other related degree required.
    • Minimum of 10 years management/leadership QA experience in the food manufacturing industry.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
    • Complete understanding of Food Safety Guidelines/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safe practices and procedures.
    • Complete understanding of HACCP principals.
    • Understanding of government regulations (FDA, USDA).
    • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques, and documentation.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks.
    • Ability to analyze data utilizing statistics.
    • Strong computer skills including QA applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
    • Training in the following areas: General safety, Foreign Object Awareness, Quality System Awareness.
    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Provide necessary papers allowing holder to work legally in the United States.
